Rhonda Kite Fields - Head Coach - Eastern Oklahoma State College, Lady Mountaineer Basketball 1976-1978

Coach Rhonda Fields just completed 28 years of coaching girl’s basketball in Oklahoma.  She has raised a family here and lived in Oklahoma her entire life.  Competitive
and recreational sports have been a huge part of the “Kite-Fields” family life-style.
Rhonda graduated from Panama High School in Leflore County in 1976.  She was an All-Stater   and one of the top scorers in the state (33.6 ppg) at that time. She signed
a letter of intent to play at EOSC after graduation and enjoyed two very successful seasons as a Lady Mountaineer.  When recruiting began after her sophomore year, she
chose Oklahoma State University from 43 Division I colleges that were offering full scholarships for the first time, due to a new law that had passed in 1973 named, Title IX.
This same law had opened the door for a full scholarship to Eastern two years earlier and now four-year institutions had progressed to equal opportunities.  She became the
first full-scholarship female athlete in Oklahoma State University history.
As doors continued to open under Title IX, a women’s professional basketball league was formed called the WBL (Women’s Basketball League).  Rhonda Kite became
the first female from OSU to be “drafted” into a women’s professional sport.
Although basketball has always been the primary passion, sports in general have been woven into the fabric of her life.  A former softball pitcher, competitive horse rider
and trainer, swimmer, aerobics/pilates instructor, golfer and sports watching mom, there are not many sports she doesn’t enjoy.  This healthy life-style is reflected in the
classes she teaches at Jenks High School.
As a basketball coach, she has made seven State Tournament appearances, with a State Runner-Up finish in 1995.  She has coached twelve All-Staters and has
received numerous honors and awards, but one of the most memorable was being named the Oklahoma Coaches Association Girl’s Basketball Coach of the Year in 2005.
During that time, her team won back-to-back championships at the SE Expo Girl’s Tournament of Champions in McAlester. She is very active in the Fellowship of Christian
Athletes as a school sponsor, speaker and camp coach.  FCA is also deeply rooted within her children.
Coach Fields is married to Wendall Fields (Antlers, Okla.) He played baseball at East Central University and works for Follett Corp. (an educational sales company).
They have raised two sons: Josh Fields-football/baseball player at OSU and now with the Kansas City Royals, and Jace Fields-All-State track (discus) and football player at
Stillwater H.S. and now a senior Marketing major at OSU.  Her daughter-in-law Ashleigh Tweed Fields was the starting second baseman for Cowgirl Softball at OSU and
graduated in 2006.
Wendall and Rhonda welcomed their first grandchild on October 17, 2009, Kaden Jace Fields.
